316 stainless steel, is a general term for stainless steel and acid-resistant steel. Because of the addition of Mo, so its corrosion resistance, atmospheric corrosion resistance and high temperature strength is better, can be used in harsh conditions; work hardening is excellent (non-magnetic). Generally used in anti-corrosive environment, as well as medical equipment and household goods.

*Corrosion resistance:
Corrosion resistance is better than 304 stainless steel, in the pulp and paper production process has good corrosion resistance. Also, 316 stainless steel is resistant to marine and aggressive industrial atmospheres.

*Heat resistance:
Stainless steel 316 (06Cr17Ni12Mo2) has good oxidation resistance in intermittent use up to 871°C (1600°F) and in continuous use above 927C° (1700°F). In the range of 427°C-857°C (800°F-1575°F), it is best not to use 316 stainless steel continuously, but when 316 stainless steel is used continuously outside of this temperature range, the stainless steel has good heat resistance. 316L stainless steel has better resistance to carbide precipitation than 316 stainless steel, and can be used in the above temperature range.

*Heat Treatment:
Anneal in the temperature range of 1850-2050°F, then anneal rapidly, then cool rapidly. 316 stainless steel cannot be hardened by heat treatment.

*Welding:
316 stainless steel has good welding properties. It can be welded by all standard welding methods. Welding can be done with 316Cb, 316L or 309Cb stainless steel filler rod or electrodes, respectively, depending on the application. For optimum corrosion resistance, welded sections of 316 stainless steel steel need to be annealed after welding
