  Gum Tree :

Gum Tree ~ Eucalyptus is a genus of more than 700 species of flowering plants in the family Myrtaceae. Most species of Eucalyptus are trees, often mallees, and a few are shrubs. Along with several other genera in the tribe Eucalypteae, including Corymbia and Angophora, they are commonly known as eucalypts or "gum trees". Plants in the genus Eucalyptus have bark that is either smooth, fibrous, hard or stringy, the leaves have oil glands, and the sepals and petals are fused to form a "cap" or operculum over the stamens. The fruit is a woody capsule commonly referred to as a "gumnut".

Most species of Eucalyptus are native to Australia, and every state and territory has representative species. About three-quarters of Australian forests are eucalypt forests. Many eucalypt species have adapted to wildfire, and are able to resprout after fire or have seeds which survive fire.

A few species are native to islands north of Australia and a smaller number are only found outside the continent. Eucalypts have been grown in plantations in many other countries because they are fast growing and have valuable timber, or can be used for pulpwood, for honey production or essential oils. In some countries, however, they have been removed because of the danger of forest fires due to their high flammability.

Bronze Mother-of-Pearl : Black Winged Oyster – Pteria Penguin (bronze Mother-of-Pearl)

Pteria is a genus of winged oyster closely related to Pinctata that also produces commercial quantities of Mother-of-Pearls.

It is a tropical species, with pearly interiors and long, wing-like projections of the hinge, have fragile shells.

Winged oysters are found naturally on rocks and coral near channels and capes where the current runs fast and they attach themselves to the ocean bottom and to wharf pilings. Pteria Penguin is a major source of Mabe Pearl production.

The Black Winged Oyster, Pteria Penguin that grows up to 20-30 cm in diameter is also called “the penguin wing oyster” from its shape like a wing. They commonly display a silver color under the oyster muscle with a rich mauve, gold banding towards the black/brown outer-lip.

The Black Winged Oyster produces brilliant nacre with a rainbow-like spectrum of hues and possesses a uniquely penetrating brilliance, with hues ranging from light pink through deep "rainbow".

Sometimes the shells have gold or other hues of high rarity. This rich variety of lustrous hues combines with nacreous layers of a rarely seen fineness of texture to give this Mother-of-Pearl.

The Black Winged Pearl Oyster can be found in the east to the western tropical Pacific and from the southern islands of Japan in the north to the southern waters of Australia and Indonesia.

  Black Mother-of-Pearl :

Pinctada margaritifera ~ Black-lip Pearl Oyster

Pinctada margaritifera, commonly known as the black-lip pearl oyster, is a species of pearl oyster, a saltwater clam, a marine bivalve mollusk in the family Pteriidae. This species is common in the Indo-Pacific within tropical coral reefs.

The ability of P. margaritifera to produce pearls means that the species is a valuable resource to humans. The oysters are harvested wild from coral reefs and are also commonly grown in aquaculture, both primarily taking place in the Indo-Pacific region.

The common name of this species refers to the black coloring along the margins of the interior of the shell. Externally the shell is dark grayish brown or green, though white spots are common across the shell. Adults usually reach between 20 and 25 cm (7.9 and 9.8 inches) in height.

Remarks : This finely carved shell could make a spectacular pendant

This is not a ready to wear jewelry.
