Up for auction is this beautiful and antique rare Japanese glazed pottery lidded / covered box in the shape of a large apple with stem finial ring handle and applied leaf.

The top and sides are wonderfully decorated with hand-painted flower blossoms and foliage.

Some of the larger daisy flowers are stunning and cross over from lid to base.

Looks to have some small Japanese signed characters on the interior lid and bowl. Has some light paint wear on the rim edge and just a tiny flea bite to the inner rim edge. Very minor and the box is otherwise perfect.

I believe this dates to the late 19th C Meiji period.

Measures 4.8” inches wide by 4” inches tall (12.2 cm, 10.2 cm).

Would make a fantastic display piece, fine addition to a collection, or a great gift!
