Strange little vintage octagonal teacup and matching saucer with handpainted (I would guess) gold highlights. The mother of pearl effect is mostly confined to the white interior of the cup.

To say the shape is strange is an understatement, sort of a scalloped or fluted octagon. Very clear "Royal Sealy" stamps on the bottom of both cup and saucer.

No chips or cracks and gives a nice "ding" when touched.

There is an odd smudge of hand painted gold near the outside rim of the cup (see photos), I assume that this is a factory defect.

Can you imagine anyone ever using this to drink tea? Me neither. So I'd say that it's safe to say the cup is unused.
