Why an English Trike?
English Trikes often nicknamed a "Barrow" have many fans for a reason. They are just pure fun. You do have to forget what you know about bicycle riding as you generally do not lean on a trike; you just steer! Of course it provides more sure footing on ice or slick surfaces but English Racing Trikes are light and fast no like the majority of those 20-24 inch 75lb monsters you normally see that ride like tanks....but much slower. This converter weighs only slightly more than a rear wheel with cogs it replaces ( see last photo ) so speed is not a problem and it pedals easily. The fully adjustable stays are stainless steel and can tuned for all wheel sizes and angles. I installed mine on a nice Trek Steel Racing bike but it can be configured to most classic bikes, even recumbents. You can move it from bike to bike.
Long distance rides and hill climbing take practice but there were many English Trikes on the 750 mile Paris Brest Paris Marathon and configuring a camping load ( even a large mountaineering backpack ) between the rear wheels is a fun project and with three wheels sharing the load broken spokes are a never an issue. Fun fact riding in the rain only requires a front fender.Another advantage is changing tires can be accomplished easily while the wheels are still mounted.





Some Tech and History:

This Ken Rogers Trike Kit was inspired by the classic Higgins design but updated for more modern bikes. While this kit will work with vertical and horizontal dropouts like the classic Campagnolo #1010 long horizontal dropouts. Will work with 5, 6 or 7 speed freewheels. Supplied with 700c Michelin Dynamic Tires on light weight Rigida Rims but can be used for wheels of 20 inches and larger diameter with different rims laced up to the existing hubs.

The rear dropout spacing of the donor bike is adjustable from 110 to 126mm. For othe spacings I cna test fit upon request. The mounting axle can be fine tuned for the best chainline and dropout spacing with supplied axle spacers and spare mounting axle with extra threading.

While this kit can be set up on a fixed gear bike ( great on ice ) it is supplied with an adjustable derailleur gear hanger allowing for lateral derailleur mounting. So this kit can be moved easily from bike to bike.
