Rockwell Kent was an American print maker, writer, sailor, voyager, painter, and adventurer. He was able to create a signature style of sculptural characterizations and while he traveled he often illustrated his account of his trips to Greenland, Alaska, and the Strait of Magellan. Kent wrote the Introduction in the book about his art.

Thomas H. Benton was an American muralist and painter. He was also one of the central figures associated with the Regionalist art movement of the 1930s. He championed realist modern art that depicted rural scenes in the American Midwest and South.
Benton wrote the Foreword in the book about his art.
