First built during World War I, U.S.R.A. 40-ton double-sheathed boxcars were relied on heavily for hauling freight in the steam era and beyond.  Featuring all-wood bodies and steel fishbelly underframes, many of these classic boxcars could be found on the rail lines as late as the 1960s.
