The scabbard has the short version of the Hoffman swivel frog.

The bayonet is in good condition. The socket is mostly dark grey with areas of silver and a light layer of pitting. The blade is mostly light silver with light corrosion freckling the entire length of the blade. It is marked US at the beginning of the fuller. The U is unreadable.

The bayonet is basically a pattern 1855 and will fit several Springfield Trapdoor rifles. It fits my 50 caliber 1866 and 1868 Springfield Trapdoor rifles but will fit earlier percussion Springfield rifles.

The leather frog is in good minus condition. The leather is soft and flexible. It has lost most of its original surface finish due to flaking. The surface of the back of the belt loop has moderate crazing. The brass swivel has a nice yellow patina.

The metal scabbard is in good minus condition. It is mostly light silver with areas of corrosion giving it a mottled appearance. There are no dents. It has an old identification label on it.

The pictures are part of the description and show condition. After you read the description ask any questions.
