This is a gorgeous Louis XV French country style secretary desk by Wellesley Guild, an American furniture maker known for its hand carved and hand crafted pieces. The 2-piece secretary desk is made of solid fruitwood, stained chestnut brown, and factory distressed to achieve a rustic European style finish. The top hutch has an arched pediment accented with crown moulding, and 2 doors lined with wire mesh that open to reveal 2 adjustable wood and glass shelves with plate grooves and built-in lighting. The bottom portion of the secretary has a drop leaf that provides a generous writing surface and reveals multiple cubby holes and small drawers for storage. There are two larger drawers below the desk compartment that provide even more storage opportunities. The desk stands on elegant Louis XV style cabriole legs and is signed Wellesley Guild inside one of the drawers. The mid-20th century secretary desk is in very good vintage condition. The desk is very well built, and all doors, drawers, and hinges function perfectly. The light in the top hutch works well. There are minor scratches and dents, but they blend in to the overall factory distressed finish of this rustic style piece.
The secretary desk measures approximately 80" tall, 35" wide, and 20" deep. It can be separated into 2 pieces for transport. Local pick up in Rockville, MD 20853. Domestic shipping available. Please contact us with your zip code for a shipping estimate.
