Vintage French "Rat de Cave" (Cellar Rat) Wrought Iron Candleholder by craftsman Jean-Yves Bouillot, Bourgogne; French Country Farmhouse

The piece that holds the candle goes around the spiral shaft to raise the candle up and down.

This type of candle holder was originally made in Burgundy France, and was known as a "rat de cave," or "cellar rat." These were used throughout France in wine cellars lighting the room and checking the fermenting gases.
