The Newgrounds at Slimbridge have, since time immemorial, attracted the largest flocks of White-fronted Geese to the United Kingdom. It is also the place where Sir Peter Scott, the father of conservation, founded his Severn Wildfowl Trust in 1946. This book was written as a tribute to Peter Scott and tells the story of this delightful piece of Gloucestershire, the setting up of the Severn Wildfowl Trust, the history of the mighty Severn, Peter Scott's building of his centre and his revolutionary design to catch live geese with rocket nets. There are also chapters on the White-fronted Geese as well as the other geese that are often lost and mixed in with the Whitefronts. Also covered is wildfowling on the Severn. This book is published by the Friends of Slimbridge in celebration of the Centenary of the birth of Sir Peter Scott the founder of WWT.
