Presented is a BEP-produced Souvenir Card (8” x 10”) that features the FACE of the 1891 TREASURY NOTE with the center portrait of William Henry Seward who, as Secretary of State in 1867, purchased the Alaska Territory from Russia - for two cents per acre.  This card is quite interesting and I believe it to be an error by the BEP when issued.  It was printed using a plate prepared from an original master plate that had the engraved signature of J.N. Huston as Treasurer.  The only issued 1891 series $50.00 Treasury note (Fr 376) has the engraved signature of E.H. Nebeker, Mr. Huston’s successor.  The card was printed using the same color ink and intaglio process used to print the original note.  It also has text describing interesting facts about the engravings.  The card is in “mint” condition and, with its original envelope, will be shipped in a rigid photo mailer.  Initial card shipping cost (USPS Ground Advantage w/tracking) is $4.50. The shipping cost per additional card(s) purchased during the same auction period will be $0.50 each. Payment must be received within 3 days of auction closing.  Thank you for viewing this item.
