Up for bidding is a vintage Hallicrafters SX-99 Mark 1B receiver. This US-made receiver dates to the mid-1950s, and characteristic of the genre, it is well built, with rugged steel chassis and cabinet. This is the version with the metal dials, somewhat more rare than the counterpart with the plastic dials. The tubular and electrolytic capacitors have been replaced, and a line fuse has been added. It is generally in very good cosmetic condition; there is some surface rust on the chassis top but the cabinet and front panel are in great condition.

I applied DeOxit to the controls, cleaned the knobs and front panel and brought the receiver up slowly using a Variac. It appears that a former owner replaced the middle IF transformer, and other modifications may have been made. Perhaps as a benefit, this set generally plays very well and receives signals on all bands. Sensitivity seems excellent and the sound is clear. It is fun to watch the large analog S-meter dance. Dial calibration is very good at the 5 and 10 MHz WWV frequencies. There is slight backlash in the bandspread dial, but otherwise all controls appear to work well. An owner's manual and Sams Photofact document are available online. The test adapter shown under the 5Y3 tube is not included.

This set should give good service and should make a nice addition to your vintage radio collection. Winning bidder please pay via PayPal within 2 days of close of auction. No returns on this item. While I believe that this set is in very good operating condition, due to its age it is offered without warranty except that it will not be DOA. Thanks for looking, and happy bidding!
