Gemmy Twinned Purple Fluorite Crystal Cluster Display Specimen - Heights Quarry, Weardale

A super display specimen of Flourite from classic Heights Quarry in Weardale. The specimen has well formed Fluorite crystals, mostly gemmy and up to 10mm. Most of the crystals are twinned. The crystals show as pale purple in artificial light, and a more rich purple in natural light with some faint zoning. The specimen has been cut on the base for display.

As is typical of most Weardale Fluorites, there is a difference in colour between natural and artificial light due to its property of fluorescing under UV light and the pictures show the crystal under both types of light for comparison (the last 8 photos are in artificial light).

The Fluorite crystals mainly measure up to 10mm on the longest edge. The cluster as a whole measures 6 x 5.5 x 5cm and weighs 152g. (All weights and measures are approximate).

This piece comes from a from a lifelong collector of minerals who mainly self-collected from all over the world and the UK, and he collected this specimen in 1991.
