DESCRIPTION:

This is a fascinating reel that has been discussed a lot on Reel Talk, the on-line forum of the Old Reel Collector’s Association (ORCA). Numerous theories as to manufacture were made, from Bronson to Oakwood Precision. It was finally decided that the likeliest maker of this reel was that it is a Swedish import reel made by ABU Garcia in the same family as their ABU Trade reels marked Line Master, Evans 600, and Dearborn Tackle. It is an extremely heavy chrome plated level wind bait caster, it’s marked “Walter H. Schatz” on the face plate and “Model G-118” on the back plate. It’s also got a backside click buttone. It functions well and needs a good cleaning but because the chrome is so heavy it will shine up bright. Lots of history of the Schatz company is available on ORCA’s Reel Talk forum. A really interesting imported 1940s trade reel! Don’t miss it.
