CLASS OF 2014 PERCUSSION SEPTET

by  Keith Ziemba

I wrote this short, fun, and easy ensemble for my 5th grader percussionists a number of years ago so that they would get used to playing in an ensemble situation, and so that they would learn to count and come in after rests.  The kids liked it so much they performed it on our Spring Concert.  It includes some fun, easy, non-embarrassing vocalization (which they liked.)  Everything, except for a measure of straight sixteenths in the snare drum part, consists of quarter notes and eight notes with rests.  No eight note syncopation, and each part is independent and equally important.

Parts suggested are:

Snare Drum

Bass Drum

Small Tom

Large Tom

Triangle

Woodblock

Tambourine

Feel free to double parts or substitute.  I've even used this with young bands on a concert pitch to work on counting.  (You have my permission to copy parts as you need to within your ensemble.)

Dynamics are included and are integral to make the piece work.

24 measures long - from 1:00 to 1:15 long depending on tempo.
