On February 16, 1810, the Ohio government authorized the creation of Madison County. The county was named in honor
 of James Madison, the fourth president of the United States. Its county seat is London, and the county is part of the 
Columbus Metropolitan Statistical Area. The county began to flourish during the 1830s, with 
the completion of the National Road through Ohio.
