Eugene Gigout (1844 - 1925,) a French composer and student of Camille St. Saens, served as the organist at the Saint-Augustin Church in Paris for 62 years. He was well known as an expert improviser and a wonderful teacher. The “Organ Toccata in b minor” is from the 1890 collection 10 pieces pour orgue. It is probably the most popular of his organ works, and is often played as an encore at organ recitals.
This transcription changes the key to C minor to make it a bit easier for wind players, although there are plenty of technical difficulties to overcome. Try for a very balanced sound and seamless phrasing, even as the measures go from part to part. A marimba solo has been added to the beginning, lengthening the piece somewhat to about 3:10.
