Hide Under Couch or other Furniture
I went through dozens of powered subwoofers before deciding to recommend this one.  As you will see in the photos below, this unit is fantastic. The controls of this unit are easy to understand and yet so flexible that the unit will work with any sound system providing you have EITHER RCA line output jacks, OR can access your speaker lines.  While the RCA lineout jacks (or sub-out jacks) of your receiver is the preferred method to wire into this unit, you can also tie the "high level" input of this unit directly to your speakers and it will take the signal from there. This unit also has a pair of "line out" RCA jacks making it easy to daisy chain multiple subwoofers together (see photos below).  This unit has a Class A/B 100watt RMS built in amplifier (plugs into standard AC wall outlet). The amp is extremely efficient and thus requires NO fan to cool it, making for a maintenance-free installation (and totally silent when not in use).  As shown in the photos, the unit provides a phase switch, an auto-power sensing circuit to save power when no audio signal is detected, a volume control knob, and my personal favorite:  The frequency cut-off adjustment knob.  Prior to using this particular subwoofer, I was always leery about placing subwoofers under furniture since the sound could be "muffled" during speech.  This knob/adjustment solves this issue completely.  The knob allows you to select the HIGH-END cut-off of the bass. Only bass from 48hz on up to what you select on the knob is amplified and projected from the subwoofer-- so turning it down to 60Hz limits the unit to only sounding off with the DEEP BASS most people want and lack in their installation.  If you have a "poorer" install or need some of the higher bass many small-speaker satellite type systems lack, then turning the knob up will fill in that gap nicely. Very Flexible.  The line-out jacks I mentioned earlier for daisy-chaining multiple subwoofers together are very nice for installations where a subwoofer is wanted UNDER each couch/seating area. Quite impressive (and easy to do as well). The phase switch mentioned above (normally set to 0 degrees) can be switched to INVERT the phase (making the speaker push when other speakers are pulling instead of operating in-sync), this is useful when using the system with other speakers which also make a good bit of low-end bass (such as floor shakers, large panel speakers, or other subwoofers) that were wired backwards. There is also a panel LED (under the unit) which illuminates red to show the unit is in standby mode (no audio detected, so amp stays off conserving power), and changes to green when audio is detected in which case the amp/sub immediately turns on and becomes active -  Very GREEN friendly.

Since the RCA line jacks are on the bottom of the unit and aim straight down, the 1 1/4" legs the unit stands on (included in the 7" height) limit the depth of the RCA connector-cable you plug in. For this reason INCLUDED WITH THE SUBWOOFER ARE TWO GOLD PLATED RIGHT-ANGLE RCA ADAPTERS so you can use "any RCA audio cable" and not a specially made stubby one. This subwoofer is totally assembled and ready to hookup. It couldn't be easier! All you need is a receiver or even just a TV with audio RCA lineout jacks.

I like standalone powered subwoofers better than wall-installed units mainly for two reasons:  1) You can place the bass where it is needed and sounds the best (which can be most difficult to determine without much testing through use).  and  2) Wall-installed units need a separate amplifier which adds to cost, wiring and equipment clutter (since most wall mount units don't have their own built-in amp).  The problem with standalone subwoofers is that they stand out and are ugly -- so the objective has ALWAYS BEEN getting rid of the ugly box that sits in the middle or corner of the room, and up until now, small units just didn't do much, and they weren't expandable meaning you were limited to one unit. This unit we're selling here, at 7" tall can hide almost in any room somewhere, and for larger areas you can add more on.. effortlessly.. and as explained above, IT PERFORMS and has a ton of features!
