1923 Dolly's Clothes Sewing Book (dolls patterns)

Your Dolly's Clothes
A 1920s Pattern Book for Making Vintage Doll Fashions

CONDITION: new, softcover, crisp and glossy covers, 16 pages, 2009, size: 8.5x11, unabridged republication, published by Bramcost Publications

Originally published in 1923, this rare doll clothes book contains patterns you can make to properly outfit your dolls in 1920s style. Because this book was originally intended to teach young girls how to design, cut and make clothes for their dolls, the patterns are simple and easy to follow and the instructions for making garments are outlined in step-by-step detail.

Full size patterns for a romper, dress, bloomers, blouse for girl and shirt for boy are provided to fit a doll sized 14 inches from head to toe and 8 inches around the waist, with simple instructions for making larger sizes. Numerous color illustrations can be found throughout the book to show the many variations and types of clothing that can be made along with color and trim suggestions. In addition, two center pages contain design ideas created and drawn by P. Clement Brown (a famous 1920s fashion designer).

Hundreds of garment styles can be made using the patterns in this book by changing fabric, adding simple decorative collars, changing out trims, adding ribbon ties at the waist, stitching on simple pockets, embroidery and patches. The book has a page devoted to adorable patches (along with instructions for making) and two pages of illustrated needlework stitches showing how to make a blanket stitch, lazy daisy, french knot, running stitches, chain stitch, overcasing, outline stitch and much more. An additional page has ducks, flowers and other trims in cross stitch to be used for garment decoration.

This book is perfect for any beginning sewer (no matter the age), mothers and grandmothers and, of course, little girls who want to learn to sew vintage, adorable outfits for their dolls.
