1945 Vintage Sewing Book (Patterns Hats Accessories)

Keep Yourself in Stitches
Sewing 1940s Hats, Wraps, Skirts & Accessories
by Dolores Boland

CONDITION: new, softcover, crisp and glossy covers, 2009, 83 pages, size: 6.69x9.61, unabridged, published by Bramcost Publications

Originally published in 1945, this rare sewing book is filled with instructions and illustrations for sewing (crocheting and knitting) fashion accessories. In a 1940s culture of make do and mend, items like those shown in this book were used to inexpensively extend a woman's wardrobe -- important during war time. This book will teach you how to make those creative items worn by our clever foremothers including 12 hats, 6 purses, 4 wraps, a vest, 6 belts (including a purse belt), 3 skirts and 3 peplums -- all included with simple, easy-to-follow directions.

Most items are sewn, but a few are knit or crocheted or contain knit/crochet trims that can be changed-out with ribbon or other embellishments. When you click a picture, along the top edge a classification of either a knitting or crochet pattern will show.

Please see images for this book's contents page and sampling of items to be made. Be sure to check our other auction listings for more vintage sewing books.
