print quality and extraordinary detail make this vintage
"Kromekote" print look very close to Porter's original dye-transfer color
prints - the closest we've seen in a
photo-mechanical print - only under magnification does the high quality photo-mechanical process become evident. Kromekote is a special triple coated substrate designed to emulate glossy photo-chemical prints. First introduced in the 1930's, Kromekote was and is an
expensive and exclusive
print surface typically reserved for projects calling for
the very highest in print quality and detail. This print was pressed with extremely high quality
offset, the likes of which are rarely seen in offset lithography. Professionally dry mounted with archival materials by Fine Photo Galleries, this stunning image is ready for a standard 16 x 20 inch frame. It is
a striking image which will frame and display beautifully.

A strong proponent of nature conservation, Porter explored new methods of presenting the natural world through color photography during a time when most serious art photographers were working in black & white. His artistic and technical contributions to bird and landscape photography transformed those genres. Eliot Porter's work has been exhibited internationally, and is held in important collections throughout the world.
Our scans simply cannot do justice to the detail and beauty of the actual print. High quality Kromekote prints are difficult to scan accurately - scanners have trouble with the ultra fine screen pattern and glossy surface, therefor diagonal or horizontal "band lines" will appear occasionally within the scans - these digital "noise lines" are not in the actual print itself.
