 Filter cartridges need to be replaced because cartridge floss will become blocked with trapped material and the carbon capacity for removing toxins will become exhausted. The Algaway pads ability to remove algae food will also be exhausted. Both of these media need to be replaced each month to maintain cartridge filter efficiency and to keep your aquarium healthy, clean and clear and algae free. Both replacement pads are easy to fit – simply slide the old pad out and insert the replacement pad. After cleaning your filter, it is advisable to add Interpet Filter Start to boost the beneficial bacteria population of your aquarium. One Month and Three Month service packs are available for all Interpet Cartridge Filters.
