A highly collectable brass cased lock with key
The raised design shows an aircraft believed to be a Blériot XI.
Probably produced to commemorate the 1909 English Channel crossing competition won by Louis Blériot
The unknown maker also manufactured several other novelty and commemorative padlocks including the
George V penny type padlock and the three cockerels padlock
43.5mm x 31.5mm x 8.7mm (excluding the raised rivets)
The hasp is 3.5mm in diameter
There is a 'rattle' to the lock when in the closed position. It appears to be design fault caused by a short bolt spring inside the case. The lock functions fine and does not open on shaking.
The penny is for scale and is not included
