Saar Protectorate (Saarland)
The Saar Protectorate (German: Saarprotektorat; French: Protectorat de Sarre) was a short-lived protectorate (1947–56) partitioned from Germany after its defeat in World War II; it was administered by France. Consequently the currency used was the French Franc. After a Plebiscite, the French returned control of the region to the government of the Federal Republic of Germany in 1957.
This semi-postal stamp was issued on 5th May 1955 to raise funds for the Red Cross.
The stamp depicts a nursing sister with a child and the Red Cross emblem.
