One of the
World's truly great sporting events, the prestigious 24 Hours of Le
Mans attracts the best and brightest of drivers, and some of the
biggest players in the global car market.
Every year they flock to the Circuit de la Sarthe to pit themselves
and their cars against the unrelenting course for 24 Hours. As much
as winning the Indy 500 or the Monaco Grand Prix, a win at Le Mans
is a highpoint in any career to equal a gold medal at the Olympics.
Who will take the laurels and spray the champagne (a tradition
invented at Le Mans, incidentally) in 2016? The last two years have
been dominated by the revitalised Porsche team and their
compatriots.
For most of this century Audi seem to have established a fortress on
the top step of the Le Mans podium, taking thirteen wins and
establishing a run of four wins in a row.
There was only so long the Stuttgart rivals would allow Audi such a
reign and it was with great anticipation fans flocked to Le Mans in
2014 to see Porsche, for so long the Circuit's sleeping giant,
return to the fray.
It took until 2015 for the hopes to be rewarded but now the scene is
set for a thrilling showdown to the kings and the would be usurpers
to the title of 'Most all-time Le Mans Wins'. The score currently
stands at Porsche 17 : Audi 13 - how will it stand after this year's
event?
Well, if Toyota have anything to say about it there will (finally)
be another Japanese manufacturer's name on the trophy. Since Mazda
won with the rotary-engined 787B way back at the end of the Group C
era, no other Japanese car has managed to conquer the overall win at
Le Mans. Will the TS050 finally break Toyota's long-running hoodoo?
Fingers crossed.
There's excitement outside of the top-flight LMP1 class with the
return of Ford to Le Mans with the all-new Ford GT running under the
Chip Ganassi Racing banner.

more!
Description:

the reaction was so reserved!

time requires preparation, dedication and a lot of grit.
To look victory right in the face but have to settle for defeat
requires a huge reserve of personality… Toyota have confirmed
they’ll be back for more next year. All you can do is take your hat
off to them and get excited for 2017!
“Finally eighteen”
With their eighteenth overall win at the 24 hours of Le Mans Porsche
can be said to have come of age in 2016.
However, if wisdom comes to those who face extreme adversity surely
Toyota must be wise well beyond their years.
With just three minutes left in the race after 24 hours of racing
the new Toyota TS050 hybrid looked set for a sensational debut win –
until fate stepped in.
The official twitter account summed up the feeling with just one
word: “Heartbroken”.
Ford managed the feat of a debut victory with their new GT in the
LMGTE Pro class, fifty years after the first win of the famous GT40.
With weather playing a role, once more, and a fiercely competitive
field of evenly matched machines and drivers, the stage was set for
a dramatic race and the reality didn’t disappoint.
The official review features all of the amazing highlights from one
of the most closely fought races in years, where there were never
more than a few laps between the leaders.
With the now familiar Radio Le Mans commentary lending a real
flavour of the live event to the review, if you couldn’t be at the
Circuit de la Sarthe for this historic showdown the official review
is the best way to enjoy one of the greatest sporting spectacles on
the planet.
