The Perth Mint is pleased to present the stunning 5oz Australian Kangaroo High Relief Silver Proof Coin, featuring one of Australia’s most loved marsupials.
The kangaroo is a quintessential Australian icon. Perfectly adapted for the arid Australian outback and rural areas, kangaroos are herbivores and live on grass, plants, and shoots and obtain most of their water intake from the food they eat.
Each coin is meticulously struck from 5oz of 99.9% pure silver in proof quality.
The coin's reverse depicts an adult kangaroo resting on its haunches with the silhouette of another kangaroo in the background. The design includes the inscription AUSTRALIAN KANGAROO, The Perth Mint’s ‘P’ mintmark, and the 2016 year-date.
The coin’s high relief reverse and obverse are minted on concave surfaces to ensure the optimum flow of metal is achieved by the strike of the die.
Each coin is used as legal tender under the Australian Currency Act 1965. The Ian Rank-Broadley effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and the monetary denomination are depicted on the coin’s obverse.
The Perth Mint will release no more than 1,000 of the Australian Kangaroo 2016 5oz High Relief Silver Proof Coin.
