Vintage tools - sharpening stone #35:

Up for sale is a genuine TURKEY STONE Natural Sharpening Stone / Razor Hone, a nice usable size.

Turkey stones were thought to have been quarried from a Novaculite source in Turkey, but their true origin has been lost over time, Turkey stones were sought after by Carpenters of yore & were highly rated above many other stones, they are only available as vintage stones as there is no source anymore.

An extremely fine finishing stone, Turkey Stone natural hones give results comparable to +1200grit sharpening stones like Hard Arkansas Stones, this stone has the natural variations of colour & grain as to be expected & is a brown toffee colour with numerous fault lines & differences in grain, photos 7,8,9 & 10 show the hone wet.

Size: the stone is 150mm long X 35mm wide X 26mm thick

Weight - 400g

CONDITION

This Turkey stone is in authentic vintage condition, wear and tear consistent with age and use, no lid for the box, some chips of the edges & ends, this stone has been repaired- drilled in the center & a steel rod fitted to reinforce the stone & then put together & filled with CyanoAcrylate- Turkey Stones are notoriously fragile, the stone has been flattened on a diamond plate to get the majority of hollows out & will give you years of service, perfect for bevel setting with straight razors.
