Description:

This GORGEOUS porcelain doll from the artisans at The Franklin Mint depicts Marilyn Monroe in the character role of Vicky Parker (aka Victoria Hoffman) from the 1954 20th Century Fox musical-comedy-drama There's No Business Like Show Business!    The all-star cast of the movie also included Ethel Merman, Mitzi Gaynor, and Donald O'Connor.    This particular Marilyn Monroe film credit has a rather interesting background story, too!

Despite having become one of the biggest stars at 20th Century Fox, Marilyn Monroe was still under a 1950 contract that denied her any choice or control over studio projects and provided much less pay than other stars of her stature.  Marilyn's frustrations with being typecast as a sexy dumb blonde and prevented from pursuing better roles by the studio head (who disliked her) finally drove her to act.  On January 4, 1954 the studio made front page headlines when it suspended Marilyn for refusing to comply when assigned the lead role in The Girl in Pink Tights movie project.   So Marilyn immediately began her own publicity campaign to counter the studio's bad press and bolster support for her position.

On January 14, 1954, Marilyn wed Joe DiMaggio at the San Francisco City Hall and then headed to Japan where they combined a honeymoon with Joe's business trip.  Marilyn then traveled alone to Korea where she performed songs from her films as part of a USO show that entertained more than 60,000 U.S. Marines over a 4 day period.  After returning to Hollywood in February, she received Photoplay's "Most Popular Female Star" award.  

Marilyn settled with the studio in March 1954 after they agreed to negotiate a new contract and give her the starring role she wanted in the upcoming Seven Year Itch movie along with a $100,000 bonus!   The studio even dropped The Girl in Pink Tights movie project that Marilyn had originally rebuffed, although in exchange she was required to do the There's No Business Like Show Business musical project (which she also strongly disliked).   But basically Marilyn got everything she wanted.   Her only concession in the settlement agreement was this performance in There's No Business Like Show Business!  

This RAVISHING collectible doll is an accurate recreation of Marilyn Monroe's famous performance as Vicky Parker in the show-stopping finale of There's No Business Like Show Business!   Crafted of fine porcelain to show off her flawless skin with hand-painted facial features, the approximately 20-inch tall doll wears a DAZZLING, curve-hugging, blue full-length gown accented with a ruffle flounce and tulle overlay beaded with Austrian crystals.   The original COA, stand, box, and shipper box are included.
