Product Description:

Our crocheted human hair dreads have been created with high quality straight human hair using on a comb and crochet hook. No products, waxes or chemicals have been used in their creation. These extensions can be crocheted to the bottom of brand new and existing dreads for seamless and permanent length.

Inclusions: 5 individual dreadlocks

Length/Size: Each dreadlock is approximately 40cm / 16" long which includes their tapered off, wispy ends. They are approximately 8mm wide with Blonde, Mid Brown, Dark Brown and Black  currently running a little thicker at closer to 9-10mm. Please allow small variations to this. These can easily be shortened or joined together to make a longer dread.

Colour & Toning: Human hair dreadlocks can be dyed, however, due to chemical sanitation, colouring and the hair originating from various sources, it can be difficult to achieve consistent results. Therefore, we recommend a colour specialist is consulted. Our blonde dreadlocks also respond well to purple shampoo if you wish to neutralise the yellow base colour. Use purple shampoo only as needed and ensure it is rinsed out well.

If you select Blend, please leave a comment with what colours you would like and how many of each.

Quality, Wear & Returns: Our dreadlocks are hand crocheted using hair which is about 9-10" long. More hair is added to build up the length as we work our way down the dreadlock and this is a common extension making technique. Just like your own dreaded hair, they will mature in time and with wear and will become a little more flexible. Also, just like your own dreadlocks, it's normal for loose hairs to escape with wear, particularly after shampooing and occasional maintenance maybe required by using a crochet hook to pull any escapees back into the dreadlock. We recommend reviewing your dreadlocks on arrival and make sure you're happy with the colour, look and feel. You can  even shampoo one dreadlock to gain a clearer understanding of how they behave and wear. Any returns must be requested within 7 days of receiving your order and only dreadlocks which are unused, unworn and in their original condition are eligible for returns.

Maintenance: Shampoo your dreadlocks as normal. Our Dread Empire range of shampoo's deeply clean and create tight, healthy locs. It's normal for loose hairs to escape, particularly as they continue to mature and after shampooing, so use a 0.6mm crochet hook to pull the loose hairs back into the dread. Palm rolling regularly with downward pressure will help shape the dread and avoid excessive shrinking. Human hair extensions can become more dehydrated than your own hair so we recommend using Dread Empire's Conditioning Spray or Quench Conditioning Oils.

Installation: Use a 0.6mm crochet hook (also available in our store) to attach the extension to the bottom of your own dreadlock. One end of the extension is blunt/rounded and the other tappers off into undreaded wispy ends and either end can be used for attachment depending on how you would like the end of your dreads to be finished.

The below video demonstrates how to use extensions to extend existing dreadlocks. Please note that the human hair dreadlock extensions DO NOT come with the loop -  our synthetic single ended dreadlock extensions were use in this video.

Installation

This video demonstrates how to permanently attach and extension to an existing dreadlock. In a nutshell, it involves fanning out the top of the extension by 4-5 cm's. Nestle the end of your own dread within the fanned out section then take a crochet hook to pull the loose hair of the extension into your dreadlock. Slowly repeating this and working your way around the full circumference of the dreadlock will form a strong and permanent join.

If the ends of your own dreads are already whispy and undreaded, there is no reason why you can't do this in reverse and fan this hair out more and nestle the extension in the fanned out section of your own dreadlock.

More Info

Crocheted extensions can be shortened or cut in half and both ends used which effectively gives you two dreads for the price of one. If the current length isn't long enough you can also attach two extensions together.
