The Igal is cord that is used to secure the scarf in place. Modern Igals are generally made of tightly woven black goat-hair and sheep's wool.

The Igal is usually worn sitting on top of the head just to hold the Scarf in place and is not suppose to be wrapped around the forehead like a hat. 

This is an authentic Igal imported from Saudi Arabia, it has lovely long tassels which can be drawn together so that it easily fits the smallest to largest of heads.
