I rebuilt these vintage amps from scratch after a complete stripdown (see last two pics). All passive components have been replaced - the resistors are carbon film and the main coupling capacitors are Mullard "mustard" types. The valves are vintage Mullard/Teonex EF86s, modern Chinese KT66s, and modern Russian GZ32s.The original circuitry has been faithfully retained, but I took the opportunity to change the sockets to modern types so the amps can be used with present-day equipment. The chassis of each amp is now earthed via its IEC mains lead for safety's sake, but to avoid earth-loops I have wired in a 10 ohm ground-lift resistor between mains earth and amplifier earth as done on modern Quad valve amps. Also to improve safety I have done away with the flimsy mains voltage selector; instead I have fitted a mains on/off switch, and an HT fuse as well as a mains fuse. Mains voltage is now set to 240, but it can easily be changed to 220 volts: I will do this before shipping if you wish. Like pretty well all Quad IIs ever made, the taps on the output transformer secondaries are connected to drive speakers of 15 ohms nominal impedance. However they can be readily changed to suit modern loudspeakers of typically 8 ohms impedance: again I will do this for you if required.

These amps sound really excellent driving my pair of refurbished Quad ESL57 speakers. I think they look good, too, in their new gold livery (although I did this with a can of spray paint so the finish is not up to automative standards). The labels are genuine Quad, but they were never used as production of the original Quad II ceased just before they would have been needed.

In view of their weight and fragility the amps would be best collected, but I am prepared to pack them up for shipment. I intend to send two parcels: one with the chasses of the amps and another with the valves separately. Cost of shipment by courier to a mainland UK address would be £25. If outside the UK please ask about shipment before bidding.
