19th Century   
Title: MOTHER OF GOD WEEPING AT THE CROSS  
Description: A waist-length representation of Our Lady with her hands are crossed upon the breast.  
On the right side of the Virgin depicts The Crucifixion at the Golgotha. 
At the left side - on the pillar depicts a rooster from the Gospel narratives about threefold Denial of Peter, before the cock crowed three times.  
Besides the cross on the icon at the bottom shown in detail all the other instruments of the passions and objects in one way or another connected with the last days of Christ's: 
a hand which hit the Savior on the cheek, a whip, nails, a dice.  
Medium:  Egg tempera, gold leaf and gesso on a wood panel. 
Dimensions: 12 1/2 x 10 1/2 inches [32 cm x 26.5 cm]; 
the thickness of the panel  1 1/4 inch [3 cm] 
Condition: Good and stable state of preservation typical for the antique 19th Century Russian Icon. Two insert splints on the back. 
The wood panel is slightly arched due to the age. 
Iconography: This is a symbolic image of the evening of Good Friday. 
The composition of the icon is filled with a sense of sorrowful calm before the future resurrection. 
Apparently, the appearance of this icon refers to the first half of the XVIII century and has a direct correlation with the apocryphal religious poems "Weeping Virgin" and "Son of God".
