PLEASE NOTE: I AM NOT A WATCH EXPERT, READ THE ENTIRE LISTING AND LOOK CAREFULLY
AT ALL THE PICTURES PRIOR TO BIDDING AS THERE ARE NO RETURNS.
A GREAT FIND from a watch collector's estate! A vintage Swiss made PIERCE WATCH CO., 2 register, 1 pusher, presumed
pilot / navigator chronograph from the 1940's; IN NEED OF REPAIR. This style chronograph was marketed as a '4 in 1' watch;
it functioned as a timekeeper, a stopwatch, a (mile) telemetre scale to measure sound distance as well as a tachymeter scale to
measure speed. The case is approximately 34mm diameter excluding crown / pusher; lug to lug measures approximately 40mm.
The movement is presumed 17 jewels and the balance wheel swings freely; the issues I noted are: when I tried to wind the watch
I could hear the click spring but I felt NO resistance on the mainspring (PRESUMED BROKEN); when I pulled out the crown to set
the hands the entire CROWN & STEM came out of the movement; the chronograph button will NOT PUSH INWARD; one of the
case screw heads is BROKEN OFF.
Please note that the collector died over 2 decades ago and collected from the 1960's to the 1980's,
so a good service (clean & oil) would be in order.
THE MOVEMENT AND CHRONOGRAPH FUNCTION ARE UNTESTED; I DO NOT KNOW IF THERE ARE ANY
BROKEN OR MISSING PARTS, other than what is listed.
The dial is 2-tone, silver and off-white with red and black nomenclature; the dial is dirty and has light scratches and small imperfections.
The plastic crystal is in excellent condition. The luminous hour and minute hands have some tarnish and LOSS to the luminous material
on the minute hand. The red sweep second hand has some paint LOSS. The rear cover of the case is stainless steel and has some
scratches with a repairman's marking on the inside. The main case and bezel are presumed nickel plate over brass; there are scratches
throughout with brassing to the upper lug area and the 9 o'clock side of the case where the rear cover has been opened over the years.
The crown has lost most of its plating. The older, non-original band is marked, "Kreisler, CALIFORNIA SADDLE LEATHER".
