A very rare 'marriage' English folk art heavy brass shoe horn of typical form, the 'heel' end decorated with a wriggle-work inscription incorporating the initials of a recently married couple 'E.J.' and 'M.V.' either side of a flower with a heart attached to the stem; English, late 17th or early 18th century.

This must have been made for a couple to celebrate their wedding as you can clearly see an incised heart on the stem of the flower dividing the sets of initials. It is certainly one of the rarest and most desirable English folk art items we have sold on eBay, especially if you love early English metalwork. The broad, or 'heel' end is beautifully incised with a flower with the initials of the married couple on either side (see photos # 7 and 8). Their initials were ‘E.J.' (or possibly 'E.C.') and 'M.V.'  It is most unusual for this sort of everyday object to have survived the ravages of time and we are proud to be able to offer it to our dedicated collectors and dealers.

The shoe horn is approximately 7 3/4 inches long and 2 1/4 inches wide at the heel. It is in excellent condition with a very nice unpolished patina (see the photographs provided). Thanks for bidding and good luck! NO RESERVE !
