Note: The 2 button key head is for the standard 911/Carrera models.  The Targa, Boxster and Cayman models use a 3 button key head.   This is a relisting- we have sold thousands.  See our other listing for the 3 button key head.  The eBay vehicle compatibility chart is prone to errors (it won't allow us to enter 911 model year 2008 which should be included, and Targa models should be excluded, because they require a 3 button key), so contact us if you need vehicle compatibility information, more detail, or photos.

We can do the entire conversion for you if you prefer.  See our conversion listing or contact us for details.

Replace Your Porsche 2 Button Key Head- Boxster Cayman 911 2005-2012- No Programming! NEW!

If the plastic portion of your Porsche Key is cracked, or broken, or there are buttons missing, this beautiful new Porsche 2 button key head with no transponder, the chrome key ring opening, and the recessed buttons, might be the answer. This key head is superior in strength, design, and appearance to the older silver colored ones.  To get a new smart key for your Porsche, or even to replace the cracked or broken plastic portion, you can't just go to a hardware store and have a duplicate made for $3. Smart keys have an imobilization device called a transponder that must be in the key head to start your car. If you have a broken key head, Porsche's solution is to sell you an entirely new key assembly, which includes the cost of the head and blank key blade, cutting the key blade and programming the remote unit, all together costing you $350 to $400. That's a lot to pay for a piece of plastic. Good news! You can have a new, fully functional, smart key that looks and works just like when your original smart key was new, or even better, for much less. This key head has 2 buttons as used with the 911/997, to operate the door locks, and the front trunk (bonnet).  If you have a Boxster or Cayman check out our 3 Button key head in our store.

If you are relatively handy with using tools on a small assembly, and are comfortable doing the conversion yourself by removing the transponder in your old key, you transfer the original transponder, circuit board, battery contacts, and cut key blade to the replacement key head. Full instructions are included with the shipment. A quick summary is below:

The key head we supply (key blank is not included unless you request it), and as shown in the photos, allows you to transfer your original cut key blade, and it has a space to allow the transponder from your old key or a new transponder to be installed. The transponder is an RFID device used on modern cars to prevent theft (the transponder is the small black module in the photo with the tweezers). It communicates via radio frequency with an antenna located near the ignition switch and transmits a code assigned to your car via the antenna to the onboard computer, in order to start your car. The transponder in your old key head can be carefully removed with a Dremel tool, scalpel, X-Acto knife, or hot knife, and fingernail polish remover, typically by sacrificing the old key head, and that's the most time consuming part of the conversion. The key blade from your old key assembly is installed in the replacement key head, the coin battery and circuit board are installed, the case is closed, and it can then be used to start the car, to operate the door locks, and trunk, just like your original key when it was new, and for those of you who have the older style key head with the plastic key ring opening and protruding buttons, this is an upgrade. You might find a key head for less money elsewhere, but we provide detailed instructions with the shipment, and full email support worldwide.

A few words of caution: Many of the key heads being sold on eBay have the transponder installed. Don't be fooled into thinking that you can just transfer your key blade, and you can start your car. The problem with using the installed transponder is, the transponder has to be programmed to work with your car. Some have suggested placing your old key with the transponder near the ignition switch, and using a new key without a transponder, but that defeats the immobilization feature. If you prefer to have us ship the key head with a transponder, let us know, and we'll gladly ship it that way. If you do it that way though- Some Porsche dealers and locksmiths can reprogram the transponder to work with your car, but many just won't do it, or don't have the equipment, or don't know how, so find out first if that route will work for you.
