2 litoographs ! Special

This is an incredibly rare offset lithograph 23.0" W x 31.0" H x 0.25" D by world-renowned aerial photographer William Garnett (1916-2016). Mr. Garnett was commissioned by American Airlines in 1956 to photograph US destinations the airline flew to as part of an ad campaign. This lithograph was part of a complete set collection that came from the estate sale of Margaret Munsen, former wife of famous California artist Edmond J. Fitzgerald (1912-1989) known for landscape, WII combat, and portrait artwork. These prints were discovered rolled and based on the medias condition, we believe these items were never opened or hung from 1956 and received directly and stored after printing. This is a remarkable collection in near mint condition.

A little about the artist : "William Garnett bought a Cessna 170B single-engine aircraft in 1956 and he used it for decades as a vantage point for his photography. He made small modifications to the plane to facilitate his photography. According to the Getty Museum, Garnett "experimented with a variety of camera formats and films but found that two 35mm cameras (one loaded with black-and-white film, and another with color film) best suited his needs." He may have also used Pentax 6X7 medium format cameras to capture his imagery." His work is considered the finest aerial photography ever taken.

This item is part of the complete collection of 1956 American Airlines Fly American Coast To Coast travel posters. These scenic destination posters include locations such as Monument Valley, Arizona; the Mississippi River; an aerial of Chicago, Illinois; an aerial of Pittsburgh Pennsylvania; and an aerial of Los Angeles, California.  If you are interested in purchasing the entire collection, please contact me for a package price.
