Charming and rare, original map of West Sussex entitled 'Map of Sussex. Part II; West' 'Drawn and Engraved by B R Davies, 16 George Street, Euston Square, London' and 'Published by J Baxter, Lewes, Dec. 1834'.

It is taken from Horsfield's History of the County of Sussex. What makes it so unusual as a map is that it has 9 vignettes of places positioned at right-angles along the coast at the approximate locations at which the places can be observed.

Views depicted are Shoreham Harbour, Shoreham Bridge, Worthing, Little Hampton Harbour, Arundel, Bognor, Pagham Harbour, Selsey Bill, and Chichester.

The map is uncoloured and folded as published. There is some discolouration and marks, and a couple of minor marginal tears which have been professionally repaired. Overall it is in good condition and would frame very well.

Size: 49.5 cms x 45 cms.
