Up for Sale/Auction is a Restored Transistorized Ignition Distributor, correct for Chevelles and Full size Chevy (and possibly other GM models without mechanical tach drive) Big Block 1966 396/325HP models optioned with K66 Transistorized Ignition, part #1111137, dtd. 5 L 8 (November 8, 1965), or 6 B 7 (February 7, 1966).  There were a limited number of SS 396/325HP produced, but optioned with Transistorized Ignition-very rare indeed!  Also in stock, is a correct restored #1111074, dtd. 5 E 10 for a 396/375HP w/TI.  How hard and expensive is it to find  an original early Big Block TI distributor?, near impossible, especially restored to the highest quality level and never with a guarantee.  We also have an original point version for 1966 Chevelle & full size Chevy #1111109 Dtd. 6 D 18, available for a lower cost.

The K-66 Ignition was a big part of GM's racing successes from the mid 60's through the mid 70's-it is far superior performance ignition system to a conventional contact point system and a very similar in design to many of the contemporary highly praised GM and aftermarket systems.

These early Big Blocks (65-66 396 & 65-67 427CI) require a unique distributor housing (see pics-lower portion of the housing) to insure proper oiling to the "top end" of the engine-these engines are too expensive to take a chance, so get the right distributor. Oil travels from the pump to the rear cam journal, but then to the lifter galleys.  On the LH side, from the cam journal, it must go past the distributor, then to the galley.  The need for the "grooved" cam (rear journal) required in 65-66 was eliminated in 67 (396, but not 427 till 68), the first two/three year model blocks had a small void (opposite side to the cam) at the distributor bore that surrounds the lower groove of the distributor housing (near the oil pump gear).  If the unique distributor housing shown here is not used, oil pressure/volume will "bleed" off through this void back to the oil pan, thus reducing the amount of pressure/volume delivered to the lifter galley-serious damage may result!

These units have been meticulously restored cosmetically and mechanically to "original".  They retain their original vacuum canister #357 (correct for 325HP), coil pick-up (w/correct "green" stripe on the wire lead-NOS & current reproduction vac is not exact to OEM-I can explain the difference).  If you want original, this is the "real deal", you will not lose judging points with this one.  Beware others that claim to have an original ID Tag--the current reproductions are not exactly correct-I can explain the difference-this is a real original ID Tag.   Discounts available with the multi-purchase of amp, coil, etc.-the more you buy, the discounts on all.

We have restored Distributors and Amps for several years and they have become one of the specialties of our Corvette restoration business.  We have campaigned several cars at the National level, so we know what the judges are looking for-"the devil is in the details".  That means all the factory markings applicable to your model car and motor.

We test every restored distributor on one of our Sun Distributor machines to insure it is within factory specs-you will receive the test sheet-custom curving available upon request.  If you need the unit to be set-up for any of the other motors mentioned, we have OEM "take-off" parts to change out the vac canister, weights and springs to correctly customize the unit to most any application.  We can even get you a reproduction ID Tag to complete the custom unit for you.  Typically, the housings were cast iron in 65 & 66, then changed to aluminum in 67, also in 67 the unique housing was no longer necessary for proper oiling on the 396 motors, but still was required on the 427 until the 68 & later model 427.

We also have other original early BB TI units  and original Small Block (even FI w/TI & later BB TI units (Mostly Corvette, but call for availability and pricing), also GTO's.  We also offer a less expensive alternative to the expensive original BB distributor-see my other listing for my modified and converted "clone"units for early BB-the pictures are of a Corvette unit, but we can accomplish the same modification for a non-tach drive unit-do not attempt the modification at home, as it is critical to fill in at the exact/correct location to complete the oiling path to the oil galleys.

If you need a TI Amp to complete your system; depending on inventory availability, we have original OEM restored Amp units
on an exchange or outright (no core) and a few NOS Amps available, as well as the latest reproduction units (see my other listings).   I also have TI Coils (Delco licensed reproductions, with correctly embossed part numbers-see my other listings).  We have a nice original or reproduction harness and correct amp mounting fasteners available.

We guarantee all restored Distributors and Amps for one year:  no questions asked or mileage restrictions.  The units have been tested on "the bench" and the amps are also tested on a running car (only true test)--so, there should be no question knowing they will work when you receive them.  If you have the wiring correct--they will work, guaranteed.  Make sure the harness is properly wired per the GM shop manual (many times TI systems fail and have been abandoned to run a point system; the wiring converted, and coil changed out, which are quite different, and remember-TI systems do not use a ballast resistor).

Shipping cost listed includes high insurance!
