Highly collectable elegant antique Battersea or Bilston style hand painted covered oblong (oval) enamel on copper box, made for many purposes, including use
as snuff boxes, patch (beauty spot) boxes and pill box, manufactured by the Paris-based Samson, Edmé et Cie (commonly known as Samson Ceramics, as evidenced by the genuine Samson mark, the entwined “s’ s”, at the box's bottom) in the mid 19th century (c.1850). It is beautifully decorated piece with a man with a mull landscape scene and and flower applique on the box sides. Given its age and fragile nature, the box is in good used condition with minimal defects and without any structural damage.
