Today's PCGS population of the Limited Edition issue of the Donna Pope signed halves is unknown to me. I have found internet documentation indicating that this signed 'LE' Proof Half Dollar was hand signed and limited to only 100 coins. The other Donna Pope signature 'Washington' coins, w/o the 'Limited Edition' label, were promoted as signed via 'Auto-Pen.' Since there are literally hundreds & more, of the regular signature coins, that they were auto-pen signed is obvious.
Whether or not the 'Limited-Edition' half dollar was actually limited to 100 coins hand signed coins is not clear to me.....
Why? ….I once owned (14) of the LE signature halves. I now have but (2) of them. I am aware that another eBay dealer/collector had twice that many in HIS inventory! Earlier last year, I witnessed the auction sale of 80 LE signed specimens, all within a 3-week period! I admit to poor math skills, but it appears to me now that some unknown number, far beyond 100 LE coins, were produced (accidentally or on purpose?).
Many years ago, I was determined to obtain ALL 100 of the LE halves, hoping of course, to corner the market and to enjoy huge profits. Unfortunately, for a period of time (1996-2009), only a very few LE examples were ever offered/made available, ...I eventually lost interest and moved on.
I'm now cleaning up a huge backlog of dupes from cents to dollars. Look at my other lots, you may see something you'd like or need?
If you win/bin more than one of my lots, please do not pay until I've sent a modified invoice reflecting your revised shipping cost. ...Shipped with insurance and tracking.
Thanks for looking!
