A very nice set of 8 x Walker & Hall, Sheffield Norwegian American Oceanliner sterling silver plated A1 teaspoons. Hallmarked at the Sheffield Assay Office - 1933 (p). Condition of the silverware is excellent.

Established in 1910 to operate passenger, mail and cargo services between Norway and the United States, the oceanliners of the Norwegian American Lines played an historic role in the great immigration from Scandinavia to North America. Operating regular transatlantic service between Oslo and New York, the company expanded during the early twentieth century to become Norway's largest shipping company.

The economic collapse during the Great Depression and new United States emigration regulations caused the company to diversify into other routes and also into pleasure cruising. In the 1960's passenger traffic was largely taken over by air travel and the company concentrated primarily on cargo work and cruising.

From the once-mighty Norwegian American Lines ships, we are pleased to offer these handsome silver-plated teaspoons. Stamped on its handle with the N.A.L. house flag, these spoons bear the warm luster and patina from years of loyal use aboard the great ships of the Norwegian American Lines.
