Handmade with Gold Metallic Thread, a Late 19th Century Kesho-Mawashi Eagle Ceremonial Wrestlers ApronThis is a collectors’ item, authentic, and unique.

Only one similar found at the Metropolitan Museum in New York. It is a Gold Threaded, Superior Antique which is Historically Significant and Unique according to my searches. There are some holes in the felt which are inherent with natural fiber and age, two tassels are missing, some loose stitching, but all these make the object more appealing and valuable.

This Kesho Mawashi was offered to a wrestler who was sponsored by a local Feudal Daimyo, whom were their area Overlords. The upper-class Japanese engaged in Eagle and Falconry and the apron represented their clan. It was especially practiced by Emperors, Courtiers, and the Samurai well into the Edo period.

The Eye of the Eagle is made of real glass and the Embroidery contains Gold Metallic Thread. The design is three-dimensional, and all of the knotting, tassels, and embroidery are handmade. The textile is wool felt and parts are cotton and hemp.

This is a collectors’ item, authentic, and unique. Many different factors determine prices. First: age, rarity, and condition. Second: aesthetics. Japanese Kimonos and traditional clothing prices can vary as much as prices on paintings. Thus, beautiful and rare Japanese items command a premium.
