What is an Australian Price Variant?
Australian Price Variants (APV for short) are Marvel US First Run Printed Books that were released on Newsstands in Australia over 2 specific time periods in the 1990’s. They are identical to the US release books except that the price is in $AUS and the first batch run also had different month printed on the cover.
Why does it matter?
APV’s were low print run books (low thousands) - available only direct from Marvel US to Australian Retailers. All unsold copies were pulped as per the normal procedure of the day. So not only are these books rare, but it's virtually impossible to find high grade copies as very few Comic book shops sold them directly to collectors. They’ve only recently been recognised as Price Variants by CBCS, CGC & Overstreet.
None of that really matters though - I just always liked them :) I have collected them for years but the time has come to thin out my collection of some of the excess. I’m listing a large number of lower grade copies I’ve gathered allong the way. I hope that any fellow collectors can fill some holes in their collections.
