Now with better wood selection. The Bass wood is firmer and still light weight. Wood selection is much improved on earlier prompting us to refer to these as SERIES 2 kits. You will need a 3 to 4 function Radio Transmitter as 3 for 4 functions used on the model aircraft ( This aircraft is shown on Rudder Elevator and while you could convert a model to ailerons you would need to be experienced).
The Tony Ray Super Micro Motor 8.5 gearbox and prop set is now INCLUDED in the kit. The SWM Bricks and Motor store does have spare motors and we plan to list them on eBay also. The Steve Webb Models store do list the RC at this listing - 184081874396 on a drop down.

The Model Requires:
• DSM2/DSMX Micro Receiver or similar - Frsky, Futaba - You fit your own gear or adapt Donor Gear from E Flight or ParkZone
• 1.7g Micro Servo or servo board ( easily adapts) Or similar.
Donor RC can be used. Lots of models Ares, FlyZone ParkZone, Rage, Union, WL Toys etc. RC from models that if you are a little practiced at adapting can be made to fit and control aircraft like these. The Vapor Board or even the AS3X boards from the ParkZone and E Flite range. When you have crashed beyond repairs Micro or Mini Model, don't let the gear go to waste. Get a Tony Ray model and use it. Not only is it recycling and keeping your RC costs down, but its giving you the pleasure of building a model as well.

The Model in this listing is the Balsa KIT with Motor and Prop - No RC Electronics. You can also use the Motor Gear Box from the UMX 4 Site,Spitfire,Mustang,Warhawk. Some modeller's use the RC from RTF models they have crashed or retired, Glues, sanding paper, sharp knife, covering and covering dope (depending on covering used).
Radio Control Equipment. The model has been built as 3 function with the ailerons fixed, if built 4 function you will need servos and your own ability to install. The kits is designed to fly 3 functions. Various RC equipment can be used with success

Design and development
In response to the Daily Mail Light Aeroplane Competition of 1923 de Havilland built two DH.53s which were named Humming Bird and Sylvia II. The DH.53 was a low-wing single-seat monoplane powered by a Douglas 750 cc motorcycle engine. At Lympne, in October 1923, the DH.53s did not win any prizes but gave an impressive performance for a light aircraft. The Air Ministry became interested in the design and ordered eight in 1924 as communications and training aircraft for the Royal Air Force.
Early in 1924 twelve aircraft were built at Stag Lane Aerodrome and were named Humming Bird after the first prototype. Eight aircraft were for the Air Ministry order, three were for export to Australia, and one was exported to Aero in Prague. One further aircraft was later built for an order from Russia.
The production aircraft were powered by a 26 hp (19 kW) Blackburne Tomtit two-cylinder engine
Operational service with the RAF
The first six aircraft for the Royal Air Force all made their public debut at the 1925 display at RAF Hendon, where they were raced against each other. The last two aircraft would later be used for "parasite aircraft" trials being launched from below an airship – the R.33. The aircraft were retired in 1927 and all eight were sold as civil aircraft.
