1st print example

The offered item is a rare factory sealed 1st Print example of the classic and controversial Sega CD game Night Trap. There are several versions of Night Trap that were released, including two different versions of the early red box. The game released in October of 1992 and was a controversial game in the media and with parents because the game was said to depict realistic violence against women and had an unusual amount of sex appeal for a home console system that was marketed to kids. This included strange, black masked men breaking into a house full of teenage girls during a weekend sleepover. The Sega CD was one of the first systems to use full motion video so this was the first step that moved video games into more realistic graphics. Sega quickly revised the box to include an "MA-17" rating and so the first release of the game does not have this rating displayed on the front of the box. Additionally, the actual cut of the game was edited and some of the more risque scenes were edited or removed. After the two early red box editions, there was a blue box released later and also a Sega CD 32X version of the game with improved graphics.

As a testament to the demand associated with this game, Limited Run Games recently re-released the game with a reproduction run of the classic red box and the later blue box. These are commonly available and not to be confused with this rarity being offered here. For comic guys, this game reminds me of the 1950s comic book censoring and adoption of the Comic Code. This factory sealed example has been authenticated by WATA and assigned a grade of 6.5 B+. An extremely tough game to locate in factory sealed condition and is becoming harder and harder to find even in CIB.
