Camshaft Bearings support the camshaft and provide its rotation. It is good practice to replace old tired and worn units as a important step of your engine rebuild, especially if the engine block has been acid dipped for cleaning, caustics attack the Whitemetal and in more times than not, damage may be caused to the bearings during this process.
