It is cultivated in many regions of the world, in Europe since the 16th century. It is grown as an oil plant with edible seeds. From seeds, sunflower oil is obtained as edible fat. Is a very rich source of linoleic acid

- used as an antipyretic for mild fever

- externally support the absorption of the effects of ecchymosis, bruises, hematomas

- used topically for dermatitis, acne and pruritus, for swelling caused by injuries or dislocations

- strengthen the effect of arnica used as a remedy for swelling and bruising
