Introduction

The ASCII BASIC Module is capable of performing some very powerful features typically reserved for (more expensive) midsize Programmable Logic Controllers ("PLCs"). Many applications where the module will be used as a stand-alone microcomputer or where information will be passed between the programmable controller and the module, will allow more flexibility to the system designer.

ASCII BASIC Module Features:

  • Programmed via the BASIC programming language, very versatile instruction set.
  • Eight 16-bit input and eight 16-bit output registers interfacing the ASCII BASIC module to the PLC.
  • Very powerful floating-point math instructions, including logarithmic and trigonometric functions.
  • Primary RS-232 communication port for connection to a "dumb" terminal or host computer for program development.
  • Secondary RS-232/RS-485 communication port for connection to an operator interface terminal, printer, etc.
  • Single slot usage, low power consumption, typically less than 130 mA (180 mA max) at 5VDC.
  • Asynchronous program execution.
