Edward Ruscha has long been an influential voice in postwar American painting and in the graphic arts. Born in Omaha and raised in Oklahoma City, he left for Los Angeles in 1956 to study commercial art but soon abandoned this discipline for painting, though the skills of typography and illustration remained central to his work. Today, Ruscha is best known for work that comments on the urban vernacular landscape and is often imbued with a provocative use of language.
'ED RUSCHA / NOW THEN' will be on view at The Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) New York, NY, 9/10/2023 - 1/13/2024. The major exhibition will travel to the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA), Los Angeles, CA, 4/7 - 1/16/2024.
